Sports

I don't know how we did it, but we have managed to become one of the sport driven families that we said we would never be. I guess it just happened because every time one of the kids said they wanted to try a sport we said, "Sure." The next thing we know we are busy every day of the week and have no time for down time...which was the original reason we were letting the kids join...to get them off their butts and to stop fighting with each other.

Now we have Wrestling on M and W with tournaments on Fridays and Sundays, and Basketball on Tu with games on Saturdays. We have also added a mental "sport" Odyssey of the Mind which will meet on Thursdays and eventually even twice a week until it's tournament in March.

Oh, and let's not forget Piano lessons on Wednesdays.

I think Elyse is the most exhausted because she has her hand in all of the pots. She is going through a growth spurt and has been excelling in her schoolwork which is why we let her join the other teams. She hasn't said that she wants to leave any of the teams. The wrestling tournaments are optional and basketball will be done in 2 weeks...but then she wants to join the afterschool Bowling program for the next 8 weeks.

We just wanted to let them try out the various activities to see what they were like, so how did we not see this coming and let this happen anyway?

I think one of the reasons I let this happen is becasue I look on TV and in the mirror and am terrified that my kids will be overweight and be limited physically. I wanted them to see that being physically active is fun and that they can do anything as long as they do their best.
